This video is about Bartolomeo Cristofori, who was the Inventor of the pianoforte. The pianoforte was eventually shortened to the name "piano." It was the first keyboard instrument with the ability to play both soft and loud sounds. Prior to Cristofori's invention of the pianoforte, musicians only had the choice of playing a clavichord (which was rather quiet) or a harpsichord (which was on the loud side). Cristofori named his creation the pianoforte, which literally meant the soft-loud instrument.
